Sam Fender has donated the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound award cash to the trust for venues, which functions to save the United Kingdom's small live music spots.

Fender was presented with the prize on mid-October as his new release his work was chosen as the top album of the previous year.

He has chosen to give the cash to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the crucial part local spots had in his early career.

"I personally wouldn't be doing my current career if it weren't for all the performances I did around the North East, and further afield, when I was just getting going," said the artist. "These locations are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these venues have shut down – about one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Recently, major artists including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by including a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which goes to help local stages.

He also joined in, raising in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist numerous grassroots venues across the UK.

These funds assisted venues that were confronting imminent closure due to challenges stemming from flooding, blazes and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Some locations were granted funding support in improving amenities and technical equipment that directly benefitted artists and audiences.

"The idea that funds from concerts in big venues helps the independent spots, where it begins for musicians like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has stated.

The musician is far from the only musician to donate his Mercury Prize winnings to worthy causes.

In they received the prize in 1996 for their record their work, vocalist Jarvis Cocker declared that the group would give their cash to the charity the charity.

During 2002, artist she split her bounty between multiple good causes, including the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also gave a £1,000 to my local community centre, to their gymnastics program, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked updated gear," Ms Dynamite shared with the media.

Previously, they contributed their winnings to the youth organization that supported their band, in addition to other local music groups.

Also winners that year the group contributed their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was identified with the illness.

"The victory was ample," remarked singer the singer. "The money was the cherry on top but we could do without the extra, because we had the cake. So our success affected another person's life."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust announced it had saved several local spots in south-east England, by transferring them to public stewardship.

The first in that area and the other in the city were purchased under the community ownership initiative, which is backed by Arts Council England and supporters who acquire "ownership units" in the venues.
